Detecting Multiple Illuminants

چکیده
The presence of multiple illuminants in an image is an obstacle for many computer vision algorithms as well as most illuminant estimation algorithms. Multiply lit scenes do, however, occur in many situations, such as the presence of shadows or daytime indoor environments. Common ways to minimize the problems created by multiple lights are to perform a given task only in regions containing a single light or to remove the non-prevailing illumination, thereby rendering the entire image under a single illuminant. Before these methods can be implemented though, it is necessary to first detect the parts of the image that are differently illuminated. In this paper, we propose a novel method to detect multiple illuminants using the chromagenic theory. We start by taking two pictures of each scene, a normal one and one where a colored filter is placed in front of the camera, and then estimate the illuminant incident to each pixel of the

Estimating, detecting and removing illumination in images
The response of an imaging device to a colour signal depends on the combination of the scene illuminant, surface reflectances and the device sensor sensitivities. If one is given only the device responses, it is not possible to subsequently separate the components of the colour signal, and this creates problems for many computer vision algorithms. In this thesis, we focus on the interaction bet...
متن کاملEstimation of Multiple Illuminants from a Single Image of Arbitrary Known Geometry
We present a new method for the detection and estimation of multiple illuminants, using one image of any object with known geometry and Lambertian reflectance. Our method obviates the need to modify the imaged scene by inserting calibration objects of any particular geometry, relying instead on partial knowledge of the geometry of the scene. Thus, the recovered multiple illuminants can be used ...
متن کاملThe Radiometry of Multiple Images
We introduce a methodology for radiometric reconstruction, the simultaneous recovery of multiple illuminants and surface albedoes from multiple views, assuming that the geometry of the scene and of the cameras is known. We formulate the linear theory of multiple illuminants and show its similarities with the theory of geometric recovery of multiple views. Linear and non-linear implementations a...
متن کاملThe Effects of Illuminants and Standard Observers Combination on Relationship between Spectrophotometric Error and Colorimetric Inaccuracy
The colorimetric error depends on the spectrophotometric inaccuracy. In this paper, a new method is introduced for determining the relationship between spectrophotometric error and colorimetric inaccuracy. The error propagation in colorimetric parameter calculation is evaluated using a linear relation between variance of reflectance spectra and CIE tristimulus values. This linear formula ca...
متن کاملRecovery of Reflectances and Varying Illuminants from Multiple Views
We introduce a new methodology for radiometric reconstruction from multiple images. It opens new possibilities because it allows simultaneous recovery of varying unknown illuminants (one per image), surface albedoes, and cameras’ radiometric responses. Designed to complement geometric reconstruction techniques, it only requires as input the geometry of the scene and of the cameras. Unlike photo...
